Duplicate tabs in Live Tabs and your browser

Problem

You see the same tabs twice - once in SupaSidebar’s Live Tabs list, and again in your browser’s own tab strip. It feels like duplicate information cluttering both places at once.

Cause

Live Tabs is a real-time mirror of your open tabs, not a replacement for your browser’s tab strip. Nothing is actually duplicated - no extra tab exists anywhere. You’re looking at one set of open tabs shown on two surfaces at the same time, and that’s by design: Live Tabs is meant to give you a second, searchable view of what’s already open, not to hide the browser’s own tabs from you.

The doubled feeling goes away once you pick one surface as the one you actually read, and quiet the other one down.

Solution

If SupaSidebar is your hub

Hide or shrink the browser’s own tab bar so your tab list lives in one place. Safari gives you two options:

  • Hide Tab Bar - Open the View menu in Safari and choose Hide Tab Bar. Safari offers this while a single tab is open, so it fits a workflow where one page stays in front of you and the rest are reached through Live Tabs.
  • Compact tab layout - Open Safari → Settings → Tabs and choose the Compact layout. This folds the tab bar into the toolbar rather than removing it, which cuts the doubling without limiting how many tabs stay open.

Other browsers vary. Most Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi) do not offer a native way to hide the tab strip, so check that browser’s own View menu to confirm what it supports.

If your browser’s tab strip is your hub

Turn Live Tabs off instead, or switch to Recents.

  1. Open Preferences → Tabs & History.
  2. Choose your mode using the card selector: Recents to see recently visited pages instead of a live mirror, or None to stop tab tracking entirely.

With Live Tabs off, SupaSidebar stops showing a live list of your open tabs, and your browser’s tab bar becomes the only place you see them.

Frequently asked questions

Does hiding the browser tab bar close my tabs?

No. Hiding a tab bar only changes what your browser displays. Every tab stays open exactly as it was, and SupaSidebar’s Live Tabs list keeps mirroring them in real time.

Will I lose any tabs if I turn off Live Tabs?

No. Live Tabs never stores or owns your tabs, it only mirrors what your browser already has open. Switching to Recents or None in Preferences → Tabs & History stops the mirror, not your browsing session.

Can I hide the tab strip in Chrome, Edge, or Brave?

Most Chromium-based browsers don’t offer a native setting to hide their tab strip. Check that browser’s own View menu to confirm, since this varies by browser and by version.
